Getting Bookish in Britain

The Miramax film Becoming Jane is the story of an imagined romance between Jane Austen (played by Anne Hathaway, pictured above) and a young Irishman, which influenced the author's most famous novels.
If your literary clients are inspired by the film and want to walk in Austen's footsteps, they can reserve an excursion with U.K.-based Storyline Journeys (www.storylinejourneys.co.uk).
In fact, Storyline reports that its "Jane Austen Experience at Chawton Hampshire" is proving to be one of its most popular offerings. Its program takes guests to where Ms. Austen spent the last eight years of her life, the home where she wrote masterpieces like Emma and Pride and Prejudice. Your VIPs will be treated to a champagne reception and a talk about the film, followed by a live performance of 18th-century music in Ms. Austen's drawing room on her personal piano. Clients also can have "Dinner with Dickens" and spend an evening in the book-lined library of Dickens's only surviving London home, or take part in "An Afternoon With Roald Dahl," a trip for children and adults alike to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre. Other featured famous Britons include Charles Darwin, while upcoming tours will be dedicated to Winston Churchill, Rudyard Kipling and George Bernard Shaw.
