BECOMING JANE is the story of the great, untold romance that inspired Jane Austen, played by Anne Hathaway. In the film, the willful and spirited young Austen is not ready to follow the conventions of her day but rather wants to pursue a writing career. That is, until she meets Tom Lefroy, a charming, roguish young Irishman played by James McAvoy.
BECOMING JANE imagines how the passionate romantic encounter between Austen and Lefroy influenced some of the author’s most famous novels.
The film also stars Julie Walters, James Cromwell and Maggie Smith. It is written by Sarah Williams and Kevin Hood, and directed by Julian Jarrold.
Storyline Journeys brings literature to life through live theatrical or musical performances in the former homes of the UK's literary greats. The Jane Austen Experience at Chawton Hampshire is proving to be one of Storyline's most popular events. They are therefore particularly pleased to be associated with Miramax Films & Classic Travel in jointly supporting Becoming Jane, the Miramax film released in the US in August.
